The Department of Agriculture and Food Science at Western Kentucky University is part of the Ogden College of Science and Engineering. Our mission is to prepare students for careers in Agriculture and Food Science industries via teaching, applied research, and outreach. This “FRESH App and a Community Network to Promote Farmers’ Markets and other Direct Producer-To- Consumer Market Outlets” project is part of our outreach efforts. We are so grateful for these partners working with us to promote and increase awareness, access, and consumption of locally grown/raised fresh produce and meat.
Envisioning strong and socioeconomically connected communities. The Foundation is actively involved in the following four programs:
1. SMILE2 (Supporting Minority, Immigrant, & Low-income through Educational Empowerment) Program.
2. Partnering with WKU to increase awareness, access, and consumption of locally-grown fresh produce, especially among Minority, Immigrant, & Low-income households.
3. Family-to-Family (F2F) Mentorship Program.
4. PEACE (Parenting Education to Activate Comfort and Empowerment) Program; referred to as “PEACE at Home” Program.
Over the year you will enjoy the bounty from our gardens and high tunnels. Nathan sets up at the Community Farmers Market every Saturday, 8:00-1:00pm at 2319 Nashville Road next to the WKU Bookstore.
A year-round producer-only farmers market located in Bowling Green, KY. We're located at 2319 Nashville Rd., between the WKU Bookstore and the WKU South Campus & Knicely Center.
The SoKY Marketplace is a year-round farmer’s market, located in Downtown Bowling Green. Come shop for your fresh, locally grown produce, handmade crafts, sweet & savory treats, meats, cheeses, and other great local products.
We provide the community with the freshest fruits and vegetables, bedding plants, baked goods, and crafts. Visit our Market on Scottsville Rd in front of Hobby Lobby every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday starting at 6 am. Open March till November.
